DVD attached sharpener was pretty useless, 10 minutes and looked I saw nothing and turned it into use. The manual was sufficient. Sharpening is easy to use and works well. There are no complaints sharpener. It is a pity that they do not have to pay for DVD.

Before we start, I have to say that I'm a fairly mechanically inclined person and I can figure out how a lot of things work without instructions. I'm a finish construction worker. That said, I've never been able to properly sharpen a knife to save my life!!
I've had this sharpener for about 6 months now. I've read at least 100 reviews about it, even before I bought it. I'm sure they're all accurate, but what you need to observe is the amount of positive over negative. Certainly, since this is a manual sharpener, there will be a few people who are not able to make this work. The overwhelming majority, however, will.
After reading so many reviews, I decided to purchase the diamond and extra fine stones initially. I will say that in all honesty, this system is not complete without them. If you truly want the whole gamut, you must purchase these as well.
When I bought this sharpener I had knives that spanned from butter knife dull to pretty sharp. One of those knives was my first knife ever, a Buck knife my Dad gave me when I was 12 and that was 24 years ago. Just so you know, I've always been the person who could sharpen a semi sharp knife into butter knife quality. That buck knife is now twice as sharp as the day I received it! Really. I can now do a one pass shave with it.
If you own kitchen knives like Henckles or Wusthof then you are fool for not keeping them scary sharp. This sharpener costs less than one chef knife and it will keep it scary sharp forever. I do about 50 (25 per side) strokes on the corner and flat side of the fine and extra fine about once a month (Henckles) and it slices onions with no sting. For the un-initiated, the reason onions sting your eyes is because the dullness of the blade crushes instead of cutting. A truly sharp knife reduces the tears.
The best advice I can give is to just buy from a reputable seller and return it if you think it sucks. Spyderco has an awesome reputation and if it really sucks for you, they do have excellent customer service.

So easy a caveman....
I've never been good with a stone or other manual sharpening methods.I would get a good edge and inevitably fowl it up trying to get a perfect edge.The built in angle guides on the Sharpmaker protect me from myslef in this sense.It makes getting the perfect edge a no-brainer.
I can now put an edge on my pocket knives,literally capable of shaving,in a matter of minutes(if that).
The options available with the different guided angles are endless as well(sharpening scissors,fish hooks,etc,etc).

This does exactly what seom of the other reviewers said it did - FINALLY sharpens some of the knives I was almost ready to give up on with other sharpeners. It took a little bit of work to correct some of the edges, but my entire knife drawer is in top form now.
It is deceptively simple, and took about five minutes of practice to be comfortable with. The enclosed DVD helped a lot. The DVD turned into a little bit of an infomercial towards the end, but helps you understand the tool.
Well worth the purchase!

This is a good system. Can't really add much that was not already stated. I only wish that I could have seen how the system works BEFORE I purchased it, because then I would have bought it right away. The video on how to use the sharpener should be on a website somewhere. So far so good. Really happy with the purchase.

Good Product
This is one of those products that actually works as advertised!! Well worth the investment. Well made, durable and easy to use. I've sharpened just about every knife I own and even sharpened those that were used as screw drivers with great results. The only drawback and it's no biggie, is that longer knives are a little harder to sharpen. What I've done is sharpen first the front half and then the last half. seems to work for me.

I was tired of my knives that wouldn't cut cake, let alone fruit, vegetables, or meat. Now all the knives in this house are dangerous. I was somewhat intimidated by the manual method required, but after watching a few YouTube videos I went ahead and ordered it. It doesn't take long to master the technique. You will only need to read the directions and watch the DVD once. I take it with me when I visit friends and family so I can show them how dull their knives really are. Awesome tool.
